Midnight Thief – GAME

[Currently Paused]

Midnight Thief is a solo project I undertook as a major assessment at Victoria University. I was responsible for all elements incorporated into the game including, the games design, character and environment concept designs, character and environment sculpting and modelling, texturing, and lighting.

Midnight Thief is a stealth game presented in a birds eye view perspective. You play the character known as John and the game is set in a small town during the night, you roam the town’s shopping Centre where your goal is to sneak past guards, break into the Centre and steal as much as you can. Along the way, scavenge for supplies, craft items to help you distract the guards, if you get caught you will have to start over.

In the beginning there wasn’t too much to the project and in order to complete my course, I was compelled to make the game into a standard time based phone game. This is not what this game was intended to be and with that said, this project is still in the early stages of development.

This project has been paused until further time to work on the game is available.

Oh, so this is what the character designs and the shop has been created for!
I think that the game’s idea is really fun and unique. Aren’t you worried about being accused of glorifying stealing, especially in the light of the online shoplifter community?
I’m not attacking you, btw, just felt like asking. Personally, I’m looking forward to playing your game!
Hope that a demo comes out someday.

You say you took this as a major assessment? How exactly did that work out or rather how does that work? I’ve thought of perhaps doing a(n) art major, but well it just doesn’t seem like something I’d excel at. I mean I’m decent, but good work requires a level of precision I simply can’t be bothered with. Also I’m lazy… so there that to remember. Anyway did you get a good grade on it or however that goes in art uni?

At this particular university I was studying Game Development and I had to cover all aspect including the art. How the grading works? I’m not sure, I think its based on what we could do, how much effort we put into our work and much more. I got a great grade by the way, thanks for asking πŸ˜€

Ah! it’s cool how all the other pieces of artwork fit together to make this! I’d like to see more of this in the future. Sorry life gets so busy :/ Are you all just bored of the project or has life gotten hectic? Hopefully we can see the inside. Especially if it’s pixelated…. ahhhh pixels πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ <3

Can I ask what program you are using to make this? I love the character! He looks adorable. I was interested in game making but never really looked into it and this looks amazing.

I use a variety of Game Engines and Programs, this particularly one is called Unity3D.

I suggest this program if you are looking into starting game development πŸ™‚

I like the sway/rolling feel of the camera in the overhead section.
I first thought it was an open grid pac man style game and then was plesantly suprised to see the first person section.
The models are great. I can tell this must have taken ages with just creating the objects alone
